PROF ALVAR SOESOO

Visiting Professor, University of Tartu

Alvar received his undergraduate and MSc degrees in geology from Tartu State University, Estonia, later did his PhD at Monash University, Australia. As a NATO PostDoc, he was working at the Voisey Bay deposit, Labrador. He has been involved as researcher or geology teacher in a number of universities and organisations in Iceland, Germany, Finland.
During 2002 – 2011 he acted as the Director of the Institute of Geology (Tallinn University of Technology, TUT, Estonia). From 2003 – Professor of Physical Geology; 2007 – 2015 – head of the Core Laboratory for Natural Mineral Materials, TUT. Alvar has been involved in resource exploration projects in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
From January 2018 to December 2019 – he was the the Director of the Geological Survey of Estonia.
